See these eight beautiful children?

They truly bring joy to my life. EVERY SINGLE ONE. They are alike in many ways: brown hair, brown eyes, like to laugh, and cook, and eat, and they each have a desire to do what is right. They are also unique and distinct from each other. One can cheerfully rebound from any setback. One is extremely witty. Another can cook anything without a recipe. One loves nature in all its seasons and talks to her plants and can spend hours outside.  One is very sensitive to the needs of others. Another brings sunshine into the lives of others without even trying. One has an amazing memory for everything. Another is tenacious in pursuing new skills.

We are excited to see what the newest addition, due to arrive in late July, will be like. What similarities will this little person have with the rest? What unique traits will s/he be born with? Whatever this child brings we are so extremely grateful to have them join our family.

The Lord did not say to multiply and replenish the earth if it is convenient, or if you are wealthy, or after you have gotten your schooling, or when there is peace on earth, or until you have four children. We believe God is glorified by having numerous children and a program of perfection for them. So also will God glorify that husband and wife who have a large posterity and who have tried to raise them up in righteousness” (Pres. Ezra Taft Benson, in Conference Report, Apr. 1969, 12).

  21. CONGRATS… I dont know how you do it all… there wasnt any sign here that I thought you were pregnant… did you stop blogging while you had morning sickness…. I get bad morning sickness (but only till week 14). You are supermum!

  25. Wonderful words! I have never regretted all the sacrifice that I had to do in order to have a large family. They are the most amazing blessings in my life. Congratulations!!

  26. @This girl loves to talk…I did (still do slightly) have morning sickness – one reason why I took the three week break around Christmastime. It went largely unnoticed by the children as it was also the same time they were having a stomach virus go around. I was the only one who didn’t get it! But at times they would say “Uh oh! Mom looks like she might be getting sick!” And then a while later it would subside somewhat and I’d feel fine.

  31. What a blessing! I just smiled as I read about each of your children’s personalities and then to get to the bottom and see there will be a new addition – icing on the cake!

  47. I’m so happy for you, but that quote causes me questions. My older sister isn’t able to have children. My husband and I have only 2 and have been unable to have anymore. Do you know if there is a quote about parents unable to have a lot of kids?

    Here are a few quotes about women who are unable to bear children. We do know that the Lord will make everything right in the end.

    “There are many lovely women who have not as yet had an acceptable offer of marriage or if married have not been able to have children, and they wonder about the doctrines that I have just now spoken about. To these President [Brigham] Young made a promise for which the plan of salvation provides the fulfillment. He said, “Many of the sisters grieve because they are not blessed with offspring. You will see the time when you will have millions of children around you. If you are faithful to your covenants, you will be mothers of nations… Be faithful, and if you are not blest with children in this time, you will be hereafter” (In Journal of Discourses 8:208.) (72-02, pp. 284-85)

    “Nevertheless, the subject of motherhood is a very tender one, for it evokes some of our greatest joys and heartaches. This has been so from the beginning. Eve was “glad” after the Fall, realizing she otherwise “never should have had seed.” 9 And yet, imagine her anguish over Cain and Abel. Some mothers experience pain because of the children they have borne; others feel pain because they do not bear children here. About this Elder John A. Widtsoe was explicit: “Women who through no fault of their own cannot exercise the gift of motherhood directly, may do so vicariously. . .For reasons known to the Lord, some women are required to wait to have children.   53. How fantastic!! Hoping your pregnancy goes well and your little #9 arrives safely. I am due to have my #9 in about 6 weeks. Never knew I’d be happy to have so many children, but I truly can’t imagine life without any of them.

  54. Congratulations to your family! You have a beautiful family and it’s fun to watch it keep growing :o)

    Like a previous poster we have 2 children that took a lot of work to get here, and that’s it. It’s a little bittersweet to watch the other large families, but we’re grateful for our two.

    I don’t often post, so I’ll take the time to say how much I enjoy your blog, you often write things that cause me to really think and to challenge myself. I appreciate all you do. Have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

  57. Many congratulations to your family. I started late in life, so I will be content with my one child, but I am the youngest of six children (Catholic family) and I know my parents would have welcomed as many as the Lord would see them fit to bear. I LOVE seeing big families. They are a testament to the fact that love grows.
