Two years ago my children and I memorized The Living Christ as a Christmas gift to my husband. It is now a wonderful addition to our Christmas and Easter celebrations.
Gearing up for our annual celebration on The Family: A Proclamation to the World, I have created memorization cards to help my children memorize The Family: A Proclamation to the World. When we memorized The Living Christ two years ago the things that helped us the most were small cards we put on rings {each child had their own to carry around} and posters to hang up near our dining room table. We wanted the same type of thing to help our children memorize The Family Proclamation. {You can find the Living Christ study helps here.}
I have divided up the Proclamation into twelve weeks {actually eleven with the last week for review}. Each weekly file contains four posters and a page that has four cards. Each card and poster has the lines to memorize for that week along with a picture for a visual cue. The weekly reviews have 12 cards on one page.
The Family Proclamation Memorization Helps
Download The Family Proclamation Week 01 cards and posters. “We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.”
Download The Family Proclamation Week 02 cards and posters. “All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.”

Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.”

We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.”

We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan. Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3).”

In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. How You Can Use the Posters
- Hang them in the main room of your home for easy review. The bathroom door is also a great under-utilized place. ☺
- Use them in family home evening to present the coming week’s memorization.
- Explain what all the terms mean.
- Put them in a binder to use as a quiet book at church.
- Use when reciting the Family Proclamation together as a family.
How You Can Use the Cards
- Make a set of flip cards for each child to carry around and study – in the car, at church, etc.
- Make a game out of them by whiting out the page numbers. Mix them up and put them in order.
- Or choose a card and see if you can recite the phrase before and after the one on the card.
Other Memorization Tips
- Recite several times every single day. Before family prayers or meals is a good time.
- Play games by have one person recite a phrase, then the next person recites the phrase after, etc.
- Make it harder by reciting one word per person going around and around!
- Use the phrases as copywork.
- Jump or clap while reciting to create a rhythm.
- Make up a tune to sing the phrases to or download these free tracks for the entire Proclamation set to music!
- Pair up an older child to help a younger one.
- Recite in the car while traveling.

Have you finished weeks 5-8 review cards? We are moving forward with memorizing and have had some great discussions about what different things mean. My 3 year old is doing it right along with us and has it down. Thanks for the pictures and help!

Thank you so much for assembling and sharing this! It is awesome! I am on a quest to help my twins daughters “master” as much LDS spiritual “grammar” as possible before they turn 8. We are deep into the process — finishing up the D&C and OT scripture mastery verses with continued help from the Sons of Ammon scripture mastery songs — and are looking ahead to “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.” I had found the music, but really wanted some graphics to accompany each section of words… Hadn’t even thought about “The Living Christ” being a bit of LDS “grammar!” Have marked it for study thereafter! Thanks for sharing these! I have wanted to memorize this for a while, and finally got the incentive to work with my family when our Primary started working on a section each month. I also cut up the “review” sheets, pasted each one to the top of a page in a composition notebook, and footnoted the key words with applicable scriptures. I was surprised how much scriptural doctrine is included in the proclamation. Now I plan to further my study with conference addresses that enhance the topics.

I wanted to thank you for this amazing break down of the Proclamation! I have been using it for my Primary this year. They each have their own book that they put the pages in and each week they pass off another page. We only do one page a week so it will last us the whole year. It has been so fun watching so many kids learn and memorize the Family Proclamation! Thank you!!

Oh, great suggestion! All I have all together in one file are the smaller cards. I will work on creating a file with just the medium sized cards. I’ll let you know when they are available and add them to the post.
These are great, thank you! We memorized The Living Christ last year and the kids have been begging to memorize the proclamation. Since it’s 20th anniversary is this year I figured it was a great idea!

Funny thing about this…I printed it out the week you posted it, nearly three years ago. It has been in a folder on my shelf through 3 moves. Today I needed to choose a capstone project for FDREL 200 at BYUI and one option was to memorize the proclamation. I thought it was amazing to realize you broke this down over 12 weeks and that it will work beautifully through my semester timeline. Thank you for sharing your talents.

We would like to use the Proclamation memorization cards for a Stake RS Supper Saturday Activity. Is there a way that I can change the wording on your cards so that we can make sets for the Spanish speaking ward as well. Or do you happen to have this already in Spanish?
