Since that realization once again (this is not the first time I’ve had to reassess and readjust my habits) I have taken several steps to reverse the order I’ve been doing things. Each day I am trying to fill my jar with rocks first then fill in the spaces with pebbles and sand. Of course, I’m not where I want to be but I can see progression.
One of the biggest changes we’ve made as a family is our schedule. Over the Christmas break we created individual schedules following the Managers of Their Homes guide. We started the first week in January and were amazed at what a diference one week made! Seriously. Our home was a little cleaner, school was more productive, I had time to spend one-on-one with each child AND Mr. Ferrero Rocher. There was even time for some never-thought-I’d-get-to-do projects. After a month we only found a few areas that needed readjusting.
Now that we have a schedule that is working for us we are starting to fine tune certain areas. Right now we are working on a more detailed cleaning schedule and chore chart. Other areas that will need further scrutiny: our house projects – creating a list of what we want done, mommy and me time – what the kids want to do when they have my full attention, fun stuff and hobbies – keeping our focus on only one or two things (this is mostly for me), homeschool – a constant concern 😀 .
On a personal level I am also going to be cutting back on my blogging time. I will still post the regular Saturday recipes, Sunday FHE lessons, and Wordull Wednesdays but other than that there are no guarantees as to when a new post will come. There are other more important, needful things that I want to spend my time on.

I’m still trying to find some sort of balance myself. My weekly goals are helping a lot but there is much room for improvement. And for me blogging was one of the first things I had to let go of.
Enjoy your improvements. One on one time with each child sounds lovely.

There is not a corner in my house that doesn’t an unfinished project…mostly I’m ok with that..I like to have a couple things going, but I can feel it pulling me…distracting me from what I could and should be doing. So, seriously, tomorrow…I’m not kidding…

I made a big magnet board for my MOH schedule – I needed flexibility with pieces that would move easily. I blogged it here: http://mommymita.blogspot.com/2008/04/master-schedule-board.html
I gave up on facebook because it was the biggest waste of time for me. Blogging may be heading in that direction as well. But I will say blogging is much more enriching. I really do learn a lot from all the great people out in the blogging world.
Good for you taking charge – I need to do the same and get exercise on my list because I’m realizing weekly trips loading and unloading Costco doesn’t really count

I love the analogy of the sand and pebbles. Very effective.
There are SO many good things. So many things that could fill up my day. I love Elder Oak’s talk on good, better and best. I have to re-read that every once in a while.
I have loved your posts and kind comments on my blog. You are a source of inspiration.
Have fun with the family!

Awwww. I was totally with you until you said you were going to post less. …But I’m just teasing. Getting your priorities figured out is wonderful. I wish you great blessings and luck keeping it up. Your children are lucky. And I’ll take what I can get as far as you posting!
