My favorite fast food restaurant is Wendy’s. Give me a Chocolate Frosty and their french fries and I’m one happy girl. Unfortunately the closest Wendy’s is about 200 miles away. 🙁 When I get a craving for a Frosty I make these Magic Chocolate Milkshakes – which means we make these at least two to three times a week. 🙂 The recipe comes from the HillBilly Housewife. Check there for other tips on making the milkshake and other flavor variations. This recipe is also great for those of us who are LDS and need to rotate our supply of powdered milk
Magic Chocolate Milkshakes
- 1-1/2 to 2 cups ice water
- 1-1/2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 to 1-1/2 trays of ice cubes, as much as you can spare
- 2 tablespoons corn oil plus a 5-second squirt of non-stick spray for emulsification purposes
Place all of the ingredients into the blender, including the oil and the non-stick spray. Use less water for thicker milk shakes and more water for shakes that are easy on your blender motor. The blender should be about 3/4’s full. Place the lid on. Process for a full 2 minutes. Pour into cups and serve. Makes 4 – 12oz servings.
Now if I can just figure out how to replicate their french fries.

Wow, where on earth do you live that the closest Wendy’s is 200 miles away?? Shocking! This recipe does look good, though, and that’s all stuff I usually have on hand- good to know! Thanks for sharing!

I dream of living that far away from a Wendy’s. 🙂
I’m definitely trying that recipe. I AM LDS by golly, and DO have a lot of dry milk lying around. 🙂

This might be a silly question, but why do you store dry milk?

KaseyQ,
Sounds like I live miles from nowhere doesn’t it? Actually the nearest town (25 miles away) has lots of fast food restaurants – Mc’Donald’s, Burger King, KFC, Jack in the box, Pizza Hut, etc. There just isn’t a Wendy’s. The nearest one is about 200 miles down the interstate.
Sarah,
Not a silly question at all! One thing we do as Mormons is strive to have some food and other essentials stored as well as some savings in case of an emergency – natural disasters, loss of a job, etc. You can read more about it here at Family Home Storage. One of the basics we store is dry milk so that oue kids will always have some type of milk to drink.

Wow! That looks amazingly good! We too live about 200 miles away from a Wendy’s. 🙁 They used to have one on the way to the Temple, so we’d stop there every time. But then it just disappeared on us:(. I feel your pain!

I might have to try these. They look like they might be weightwatchers friendly as well.
