Some good friends of ours called us last night to come pick cherries off their trees today.
The kids and I showed up with bags and a big five gallon bucket to fill. We got it done in less than an hour.
We couldn’t find any cherry pitters in town so improvised and used flat ended screws. They worked perfectly.
Everyone helped to pit cherries, except for Hershey who just went from bowl to bowl grabbing one or two along the way.
It took less than an hour to get them all pitted.
Ready for the freezer.
We saved some for snacking of course. (And taking pictures)

Jelous your trees are already fruiting! We have to wait till the end of august for our Evans Cherry to produce, but man, the wait is so worth while!
BTW, thank you so much for the heads up on the misfit blog. I am totally enjoying some of her past posts. Thank you, thank you!
Apart from pitting the cherries and putting them in a bag, do you do anything else to the cherries before freezing them? Thankyou
I’ve just begun picking cherries here. It’s such a great time of year!
Great improvisation with the screws! You know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
The cherries look scrumptious! We’re waiting for Kiwi, apricots, peaches and pears. Yum!
@Anne, all we do is pit them, wash them, put them in bags and freeze. EASY!
@Annie, you get kiwis???? LUCKY!
Thanks for the de-seeder idea! Brilliant!
My grandma and my mom always used the back end of a bobby pin.
My goodness those look delicious. Way better than what I am seeing in the store!
