A passing of the torch occurred in General Conference Saturday afternoon. The General Relief Society Presidency consisting of Sister Julie B. Beck {center}, Sister Silvia H. Allred {left}, and Sister Barbara Thompson {right} was released after five years of service.
They served unselfishly, traveling around the world, visiting women of all nationalities, teaching, guiding, encouraging and strengthening us all. I’ll be posting about the things I have learned from each one of them soon.
I am excited to get to know the new General Relief Society Presidency {pictured below}.

These are women called of God to lead us, guide us, and counsel us in the part we, as women, have in building up the kingdom of God. I look forward to hearing and learning from them! And will definitely be praying for them in their new responsibilities. It’s not easy to represent about 6 million women from around the world!
To read short bios of these women visit this page and scroll towards the bottom of the article. Sister Reeves has 13 children!!

Sis Reeves also went from counselor in her ward RS presidency to counselor in the General RS Presidency! That’s quite a jump in responsibility!
All three of them have a so-called large number of children. This excites me!
I admit, I cried a little when Sister Beck was released, but I am also very excited to see what the new presidency does. I feel like she was paving the way for bigger and better things. May the work roll forward!

I was married to my eternal sweetheart five years ago (in August) and ever since then have listened intently to Sister Beck during Conference. I cried when she was released, it is so bittersweet. Her very first message to me was in Oct 2007 of being a “Mother Who Knows” when I was newly pregnant with my first child. I will forever remember her as the Relief Society President that started it all for me! And I can’t wait to hear from the new Presidency!
Oh and I love your blog! I’ve been following for a while, I’m just not very good at commenting : ) Thanks for sharing those links!

I will miss Sis. Beck’s wonderful words and her counselors too, but I’m sure this new presidency will be great in their own way.

I grew up in a small ward in California with Sis. Reeves. I was the only member in my family and my home life left a lot to be desired. I’ve never heard her speak an unkind word and her children knew they were each loved. I felt deeply loved by her anytime I was in her home. I’m very excited to have her serve in this capacity as I haven’t seen her since I was a teenager and have missed her 🙂 I’m certain that she’s called of God and is a wonderful strong woman. She’s also survived the tremendous tragedy of losing one of her daughters in a car accident. I’m sure a lot of people are surprised by her calling to this position seemly out of nowhere, but I am not. Her husband has been serving as a mission president in Riverside, CA, and I’m sure both of their amazing spirits have made an impression on our leaders, just as they made a lasting Godly impression on my little 13 yr old heart that I still carry with me in my thirties 🙂
