This past Sunday I lent a copy of The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale to a friend. As she flipped it open she laughed at the bookplate {pictured above} inside. “That’s such a great idea!”

I read “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. It presents atrocities, so be prepared for that, but the redemption at the end is found through Jesus Christ and is a powerful, faith-building testimony of the change the atonement can bring into one’s life.
I didn’t get to any mom books this summer, but I read the City of Ember and the People of Sparks with my daughter and we both loved it. An excellent alternative to the Hunger Games series all her friends were reading but without the graphic violence. It actually presents a very positive message instead. Now that they are back in school I may be able to steal afew moments to do some reading and look forward to all the suggestions that will be in this comment thread!
I am currently reading Heaven Is Here: An Incredible Story of Hope, Triumph, and Everyday Joy by Stephanie Nielson. It is a very inspiring book.

Oh, a great re-read has been my summer fun, “Gone With the Wind.” I liked it even better this time, which surprised me. I read it as a youth, and now as a grandmother. My viewpoint was completely different this time.
I just finished “To the Rescue” the biography of Thomas S. Monson. I absolutely loved it. For fun, I just finished “The Far West” by Patricia C. Wrede—one of my all time favorite authors! She writes great fiction.
I am trying to find books for my boys this year, so no Mommy books this summer…maybe when school is in.
I just finished “The White Mountains” by John Christopher. Interesting. I also just finished “War of the Worlds” by Wells and “The Hobbit” by Tolkin (I know, I may be the only person in the world who has not read the series!) “The Dragon Seer” by Janet McNaughton was also excellent.
I am starting the Fishers of Men from the Kingdom and the Crown series. I’m enjoying it so far 🙂
I just read the new Terry Pratchett novel, The Long Earth. I love a bit of SciFi and the concept of an infinite amount of space for all of humanity to have a bit of farmland.
We read out loud “The Ordinary Princess” by M.M. Kaye and we all loved it. We followed that up with “The Hobbit” and thoroughly enjoyed that one too. We’re starting school soon and have a giant stack of read-alouds as part of the curriculum, so my kids are chomping at the bit to get started.

I’m reading The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara about the Battle of Gettysburg, one of my favorite historical events. It’s fabulous and if a certain 2yo cooperates, I’m hoping to finish it this afternoon.
Most books I have read this summer are parenting books by Richard and Linda Eyre. Not so entertaining but helpful. But I did read The Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald since my six year old read it. It was fun!
Sorry about the call name, I usually only comment on my children’s blogs! I have been reading a lot his summer, but the book that made me think long and hard is One Second After by William Forstchen. I never paid much attention to the possibility of an EMP, or even considered the consequences. The book also helped me get more serious about my non-food emergency preparedness.
And I get really ticked off when my books are not returned!!
I am currently working on the Hobbit. I never read it as a child, but both the boys raved about it, so now I am plowing through.
Bookplates are a great idea. I am pretty sure I lost a set of Shel Silverstien hardbacks because I couldn’t remember who borrowed them!
A little late in life, I know, but I just read Pollyanna for the first time. What a beautiful story!

These are adorable! I’ve been reading mostly educational books this summer, but I love them. 🙂 My favorite is The Charlotte Mason Companion.

I read The Wednesday Wars….awesome book about a boy in 7th grade and the teacher who makes him read Shakespeare.
I just read A Discovery of Witches. Such a treat!!! Harry Potter and Twilight mixed together for grown ups. Now, I know that description may turn some of you off, but for me, a total summertime treat. Best thing… the second book in the trilogy was just published. Can’t wait!

I’m re-reading a Thomas Jefferson Education, and also reading Jungle Book, and the Little House Series and A Series of Unfortunate Events with the kiddos. Also FINALLY started seriously studying Daughters in My Kingdom. Love them all!
I haven’t really been reading independently this summer… but I did walk down memory lane a bit and read some old Hardy Boys books.
Love the idea of book plates. My most recent read was “Little Night” by Luanne Rice.
Hmm, nothing memorable, except I am trying to work my way through the Old Testament.
Let’s see…I took a stroll down memory lane with lots of lm montgomery books and found a few new favorites like PAt of Silver Bush. I preread Just David and my husband is now reading it as our aloud book in the evening. (new that might interest you…) I also read The Gift of Giving Life. I am currently reading Jane Austen’s memoirs.
I just finished Austenland, Princess Academy, The Housewife and the Actor all by Shannon Hale (all within in a week!!–Let’s just say the house and meals aren’t up to par). I tend to find an author I like and then read all I can find. Let’s hope it is at least a week until I find another author I like (or at least the books I have on hold at the library don’t come in).
I have just finished reading the book “Cosmic Codes Hidden Messages From The Edge of Eternity” by Dr. Chuck Missler. This book makes the term searching for hidden things in the Bible do a double take. I would give it 5 stars.
I read more non-fiction. My husband and I were reading “Folk, This Aint Normal” by Joel Salatin in the car on our recent roadtrip.
For Darkness Shows the Stars by Diana Peterfreud, its an amazing book if you like Jane Austen which I’m a HUGE fan than you will love this book goes into the Sense and Sensibility story line. Its a young adult book but super awesome for adults too. A great LDS read because there is no bad language, I also thought the cover art was amazing. I review books online so books are a love of mine:) Thanks for such an awesome giveaway!
I’ve been reading The Little House series to my children this summer. Since I haven’t been feeling well I’ve spent most of my personal time reading the scriptures trying to find comfort, so there hasn’t been much time for anything else, and I’m okay with that. 🙂
Most recent read: “Alas, Babylon”. And my boys are in love with “Frog and Toad”, so I’ve read that quite a bit too.
I just finished reading “The Heart and Fist” by Eric Grietens. It is about a humanitarian turned Navy Seal. Right now, I’m reading Mother Teresa’s biography and Emma.
