Whew, we have had a busy, eventful April! Now that things have settled I have a bit of time to share some of our happenings. The most special event of the month was Junior Mint’s blessing on April 14th.
For those that aren’t familiar with our LDS faith a baby blessing is similar to a christening in some respects but different. Men important to the baby’s life who also hold the Melchizedek Priesthood gather in a circle and hold the baby in their hands. Similar to this image below.
A blessing is then pronounced upon the baby, usually by the father. For instance, here are few things I jotted down from Junior Mint’s blessing:
- he would have health and strength and grow and mature physically and spiritually
- at a young age he will develop a strong faith in God
- develop the foundation he needs to meet temptations and overcome them
- he would be a kind, thoughtful, loving husband and seek to fulfill his mission in life as a father
- have and learn sensitivity to the Holy Spirit
- may he learn to repent and forgive and return with honor into God’s holy presence.
As you can imagine it is a beautiful moving experience. I am so grateful for such a tender yet strong husband who really loves his family and is such a good father.

Junior Mint was born on my dad’s birthday and was given his name as a middle name.

On another note: Ready for an overdose of blog posts?
I looked at my calendar and realized I have agreed to post book reviews {for really wonderful books!} almost every single day this coming week. And since it is Mother’s Day in a little over a week I also have some lovely thoughts on motherhood to share as well as my experience at the American Mothers, Inc. convention in New York. Did you know they are the official sponsor of Mother’s Day?
Get ready for a terrific week of goodness {and even a couple of giveaways!}.

I love seeing the pictures of all your kids together. It’s funny, it takes a minute for it to occur to me what a large family you have, as I’m so used to it from growing up in one myself. I don’t look at all those lovely kids and think, “Whoa that’s a lot of kids!” What a lovely family. I’m glad the blessing went well.

Oh what wonderful pictures! So fun to see ALL of you together. It is also so wonderful to see your in-laws. We’ve been away from the Reno area for over a year now and I miss them so much. What an amazing influence they’ve been. My mom often comments on how sad she’ll be when their time there is done.

What a beautiful post. Junior Mint was born into a special family.
(BTW – I know you don’t know me, but I know your parents… particularly your father; when he was a member of the Macon, Georgia Stake Presidency where I lived at the time. He is a GOOD man!! I was a silly teenager during the time of his service, but I really, REALLY did admire him. Even today, years later, I can still recall some of his inspired teachings to us… It put a big smile on my face to see the picture of him with Junior Mint.)

I’ve been following your blog for a little while now and you’ve given me lots of good ideas to try in my own family. I am curious about one of your pictures though — the one of your dad. Would he happen to live in Tooele and be an ENT? I saw that picture and I’m pretty sure he’s our ENT. If it is him, he is just a wonderful person and has performed several surgeries on my son. Life is sure full of strange connections sometimes.
And if it’s not, I’m sorry for posting.

I adore the picture of the men holding up the baby (I realize it isn’t JM). What a great tradition for your faith. The pictures of the children are hilarious and fun, as all good pictures should be. Also, I want the name of the pattern for the dresses worn by Fudge and Cookie!
