Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles has challenged the youth to find a family name and take it to the temple. As part of the challenge they are to take their picture with #templechallenge and post it on social media. Just two weeks ago I showed my daughters how to look on Puzzilla for distant cousins who haven’t had their temple work completed. All it took was one time and they were hooked. Then they told their cousins how to do it, and well, they all caught the genealogy bug so to speak. Together they found over 300 names to go and do baptisms for. The cousins planned a special trip to the Reno Temple this past Friday and spent a little over three hours there. I just love seeing all their bright, smiling faces! Don’t their countenances just shine?

More on how to use Puzzilla tomorrow!

We didn’t find 300 names, but we found 3–one for each of my old-enough daughters. It’s a start. 🙂

Puzzilla looks interesting. It seems like a good way to find a lot of names that could be done! I’ve always wished I could do temple work for someone I was directly related to, but it’s all done. Doing the work for distant cousins- people who would be important to my direct ancestors- that sounds like a great second option!
What a good looking bunch of cousins and a wonderful project for them to go and do that work. Such a blessing to each of them and those they did work for.

Argh! We made a goal to help our oldest find a name to take to the temple the first time she goes. She’s 11. We gave ourselves a year. We’re one of those pioneer families that, really, the work is pretty much done. We know there is more work out there somewhere, but it is at the point where you really have to know what you are doing to find anyone–and we are novices. So frustrating!

Andrea, I didn’t get to the Puzzilla post today but I will tomorrow. It will open up a whole new world! My husband is all from pioneer stock 7 or more generations back and he, too, thought it has all been done. He was so shocked by all the names the youth were able to find on his line. The rest of the cousins all have both parents with pioneer stock, mine is the only one not (except for one line) and they were finding names galore. Seriously, it is AWESOME!

Well, I’m excited for your post because we’ve spent several hours on puzzilla without success. Our next step is inviting over some experts in the ward to help. We’re lost.
