A Lively Hope has been doing 100 days of scripture lettering showing her work on Instagram. One day she posted this.
Isn’t that lovely? I knew I needed to create an activity for the young women in our stake to do something similar as a reminder that God sees them too. As a stake young women presidency we are each creating a lesson, supplies included, that the ward young women can do at the last minute when plans fall through. Here is what I came up with.
Begin by reading and discussing the story of Hagar found in Genesis 16. (We are only going over the first part of the story for this activity) The story, as well as discussion questions, is included in a download at the end of the post.
Show the girls the picture of the completed painting so they can see what they will be doing.
Have the girls paint the entire 8×10 canvas whatever color they want for the background.
While the paint dries have the young women look through the painting model pictures to find one whose hairstyle resembles theirs and looks most like them. They will use these to look at while they paint. These are in a separate download from the lesson at the bottom of the post.
When the background color is dry paint the head and neck. Let dry.
Paint the shirt and hair.
Add the words “Thou God seest me” to the canvas.
Remind the girls to put these somewhere where they will see it daily as a reminder that God sees them, knows them, and hears them.
Pass out the quote by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Have the young women read it out loud together as a group.
Download the story of Hagar, the instructions for the “Thou God Seest Me” Painting Activity, and the quote by Pres. Uchtdorf below. It is a zipped file so you will need to unzip it once you have downloaded it.

Thank you!! I was scheduled to teach the activity days girls to paint this week. I was just going to show them how to do a fish until on Saturday I saw your post and knew this was just what we should do. It turned out awesome and I am glad they could have a lesson to go with the painting. They loved it!
