See this book? I finished reading it again. Finished it a month ago on November 18th.
This past General Conference President Russell M. Nelson offered four invitations to the women of the church. The second invitation was to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year.
“I invite you to read the Book of Mormon between now and the end of the year. As impossible as that may seem with all you are trying to manage in your life, if you will accept this invitation with full purpose of heart, the Lord will help you find a way to achieve it. And, as you prayerfully study, I promise that the heavens will open for you. The Lord will bless you with increased inspiration and revelation.”
When I heard this invitation my first thought was, “How am I going to find the time?” Then I remembered something I had read just earlier that week. It said, “Replace saying “I don’t have the time” with “It’s not my priority” and see how it makes you feel.” I found the time!
Along with reading The Book of Mormon I also marked all the references and verses that spoke about Jesus Christ as President Nelson asked us to do. I’ve done this before in my regular set of scriptures so I used Jason’s copy of The Book of Mormon to read and mark. It was super cute when Henry scolded me for ‘coloring’ in my scriptures but when I explained what I was doing he went and got his own copy and started “marking” it too.
While reading I was reminded again how much The Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ — His grace, His mercy, His love. The Book of Mormon is powerful! It has changed my life and can change yours too.
Here are just three of my favorite scriptures from The Book of Mormon that witness of our Savior.
“Whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day.” —Alma 36:3
“And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
“And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.”—Alma 7:11–12
“And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.” —2 Nephi 25:26
I LOVE THE BOOK OF MORMON!

Can I suggest a challenge for 2019, that we read the entire Bible, the Word of the Living God, asking him each day to teach us by his Spirit the amazing truths that lie in it and to give us a clear understanding of what he is saying to us. I shall look forward to hearing how you are getting on with it. Some of my favorite chapters in the Old Testament are in Isaiah chapters 40 – 54 and I love the gospel of John in the New Testament

I love the Bible too! My favorite scripture is Jeremiah 20:9, “His word was in mine heart as a burning fire..”
The focus for our church next year is the New Testament. We will be reading and studying it together as a family. We are all very excited! This is the study guide we will be following: https://www.lds.org/study/manual/come-follow-me-for-individuals-and-families-new-testament-2019/intro?lang=eng

Which books in the New Testament have you read so far this year? I am currently reading the book of Romans, it is such a deep book, that I have ended up just reading and rereading each verse and then studying the cross references. I was struck this morning by the depravity of the human race. Romans 3:10-11: “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”. That there is absolutely nothing we as human beings can do to save ourselves or to provide for so much as one scrap of righteousness on our own is evident in this verse, and the various cross references. There is none who seeks after God – no one! If it were not for God’s sovereign grace moving in the hearts of men, none would be saved. We have so much to be thankful for.

We definitely have much to be thankful for! We started with Matthew and have worked our way through to 2 Corinthians. This week we are reading 2 Corinthians 1-7. It has been wonderful to study the New Testament with our children every day this year!
