In the April 2020 General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson introduced the Restoration Proclamation as a way to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Joseph Smith’s First Vision.
“We wondered if a monument should be erected. But as we considered the unique historic and international impact of that First Vision, we felt impressed to create a monument not of granite or stone but of words—words of solemn and sacred proclamation—written, not to be carved in “tables of stone” but rather to be etched in the “fleshy tables” of our hearts.”
What better way to etch the words in our hearts than to memorize the Restoration Proclamation?
Thanks to the generous efforts of Amy Smith (read her bio at the bottom of the post) I am able to share these posters and cards to help you and your family memorize the Restoration Proclamation in nine weeks.
There are eleven weeks before the October General Conference. Wouldn’t this be a great way to prepare your family for it? Or you could opt for memorizing the Family Proclamation since this September marks the 25th anniversary!
There are three files for you to download. The first file is full paged posters to hang up on a bulletin board or place in a binder to use as a flip chart.
How to Use the Posters
- Hang them in the main room of your home for easy review. The bathroom door is also a great under-utilized place. ☺
- Use them in family home evening to present the coming week’s memorization.
- Explain what all the terms mean.
- Put them in a binder to use as a quiet book at church.
- Use when reciting the Restoration Proclamation together as a family
The second file has the same posters but four to a page to make smaller cards that can go on a binder ring. Memorize one page a week to be done in nine weeks. These are easy bite sized chunks!
The third file has 16 to a page for even smaller cards.
How You Can Use the Cards
- Make a set of flip cards for each child to carry around and study – in the car, at home-church, etc.
- Make a game out of them by whiting out the page numbers. Mix them up and put them in order.
- Or choose a card and see if you can recite the phrase before and after the one on the card.
Other Memorization Tips
- Recite several times every single day. Before family prayers or meals is a good time.
- Play games by have one person recite a phrase, then the next person recites the phrase after, etc.
- Make it harder by reciting one word per person going around and around!
- Use the phrases as copywork.
- Jump or clap while reciting to create a rhythm.
- Pair up an older child to help a younger one.
- Recite in the car while traveling.
- Watch the video of President Nelson saying the Restoration Proclamation and recite it along with him! He starts 3:35 minutes into the video.
These posters and cards are made possible through the wonderful efforts of Amy Smith. She created them for her family to use and is sharing them now for you to use with your families. A big thanks goes to her!

Thank you so much for these! Our family used the proclamation ones a few years ago and I’m excited to get started with these. Also, the missionaries in our area have been asked to memorize the Restoration Proclamation and I’m excited to share this tool with them as well! Thanks again.

I wanted to share that I printed the cards four to a page and they fit nicely into a little photo book. It saved me some time laminating and hole punching. 🙂
