This coming Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Can you believe it has been 25 years since President Hinckley read it in the General Women’s session of General Conference?
I was 8 months pregnant with my first child. I remember coming home from that meeting and telling my husband, Joseph, about it. Little did we know then how very much the world needed, and still needs, to relearn, reaffirm, and return to the truths proclaimed therein.
Before reading the Proclamation, President Hinckley said, “With so much of sophistry that is passed off as truth, with so much of deception concerning standards and values, with so much of allurement and enticement to take on the slow stain of the world, we have felt to warn and forewarn. In furtherance of this we of the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles now issue a proclamation to the Church and to the world as a declaration and reaffirmation of standards, doctrines, and practices relative to the family which the prophets, seers, and revelators of this church have repeatedly stated throughout its history.“
This week I’ll be hosting a celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Family Proclamation. It won’t be as grandiose a celebration as I’ve held in the past with giveaways and blog hops, etc. Instead, it will be a celebration focused on more personal stories and testimonies. I have guest writers who will share posts here this week. There will also be personal testimonies from a variety of people shared on Facebook and Instagram, both at Cranial Hiccups (facebook and instagram) and A Gospel Centered Home (facebook and instagram). Come join us there as well. I promise you will be touched and inspired as they share how the truths in the proclamation have helped them in their lives.
If you would like to share your own testimony please send me an email through my contact page.

I think President Hinckly’s prelude statement should have been included in the Proclamation.
