I forgot to mention in the last post that my brother-in-law built a hay maze out of really old bales. It is surprisingly complex and made for some great fun, both in the maze and on top jumping bales.
November 2 marked the one year anniversary of Joseph’s mother passing away. The extended family came to the family cemetery where there was a small ceremony, stories shared, and then they all gathered at our house for lunch.
Our UPS driver, Klancy, is awesome. He knew Ira was interested in working with leather. Klancy told Ira he was slaughtering a cow for meat and asked if Ira wanted to try making leather out of the cowhide. Would he ever!
It doesn’t look like it from the picture but the hide was huge! And heavy. Ira researched a bunch, watched a lot of Youtube videos, and gathered supplies. He soaked the hide in a lime mixture which helped the hair fall out easier.
It still took a lot of scraping and stretching. I also helped him cut into the cow’s skull to get the brains to help tan the leather. That was so fascinating!

All of the kids were able to come for Thanksgiving! It was great to have all of our family here playing games, laughing, watching movies, etc.
One evening we heard knocking and a little voice say “Get me out!” I opened the door to the pantry to find this scene.
Caden was trying to find the chocolate chip bucket. I had to laugh at the broom marks in the flour. At least he was trying to clean up his mess!
Since my birthday was the day after Thanksgiving they were all here for that too. The older girls were very sneaky and ordered a peach and pecan basket from Lane Southern Orchards in Fort Valley, GA. It was awesome!
Joseph and I sure enjoyed having everyone here and entertaining the grandkids.
