Abby and Debbie headed back to BYU-Idaho mid-September to start another semester of college. This time there would be a lot of cousins up there because three returned from their missions late spring and summer. They were looking forward to spending time with all the cousins.
One of the classes Abby signed up to take was an Ag Mechanics class. I teasingly said, “Oh, good place to meet guys! There are only ever two or three girls in that class but like twenty guys.” I was close. There were four girls. And one particular guy that she didn’t meet in class but who was actually in her class.
Her cousins Caleb and Ethan had a different Ag class together and they met someone in their class and invited him to hang out with them. Laura was up there the first week of classes just visiting and went with Ethan, Caleb, Miriam (another cousin), and this guy, Carson Ellis, to eat at Five Guys. Laura said while they were eating she got the feeling that Carson was going to be a member of the Wadsworth family somehow.
Abby heard about him and realized he was in her mechanics class. A few days later she saw him sitting in one of the buildings on campus and decided to go say hi.
“Hi! You’re Carson, aren’t you?”
Bold move for Abby! She’s not comfortable just going up to strangers and making conversation. She thought Carson knew she was Caleb’s and Ethan’s cousin but he didn’t.
Thank goodness for that bold move. Carson and Abby just hit it off right from the start. He didn’t know it, but he passed a major test meeting some of Abby’s sisters who all whole-heartedly approved of him.
We got to meet Carson when he came here with the college girls for the two year anniversary of Joseph’ mom’s passing at the beginning of November. The younger kids really liked him. Joseph and I really liked him. He just fit right in with the family!
When Abby first told me about meeting Carson my “mother’s intuition” just knew they were right for each other. After meeting Carson in person that feeling solidified even more.
One morning while I was in Spain (yes! I got to go to Spain for two weeks in November – more about that in another post) I woke up to a text from Joseph saying Carson had called to ask about marrying Abby. AAAAAHHHHH! I was so excited!
We had to wait almost two weeks before we could tell people. It was agonizing to say the least.
Our older girls are all close to each other. They’ve been there for one another, cheering each other on or crying with one another when life didn’t go as planned. Abby really wanted Debbie to be at her wedding. Since Debbie starts her mission in January, Carson and Abby decided to have a short six week engagement and get married on December 30th in the Logan Utah Temple.
We couldn’t be more happy for them!
Basic facts about Carson:
