On Sunday, October 1, 2023 Laura was set apart as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a perfect way to end General Conference weekend.
Her online missionary training (MTC) began Monday morning. Since she was called to preach the gospel in the Spanish language most of her classes are in Spanish.
Laura did home MTC for just a little over a week. Early Tuesday morning, October 10, Joseph and I drove her to the Reno airport where she flew to Salt Lake and then on to Mexico City. She will be in the Mexico CCM until mid-November. Then she’ll fly out to Denver, CO and travel on to Fort Collins where she’ll spend the remainder of her mission serving in areas around Fort Collins, Wyoming, and possibly some of Nebraska.
We won’t get to see Laura in person for 18 months. She’ll still get to call once a week and send emails. And we’ll get to send her letters and packages. But for the next year and a half she’ll be dedicating her life to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to others.
The Mexico CCM posted photos of the newly arrived missionaries with their districts on Facebook. It was fun to see Laura!
My nephew also started his mission the same day as Laura. They were able to meet up at the CCM. They made sure to take a picture for Grandma (my mom).
We were able to speak to Laura last Wednesday. She is adjusting well, still struggling with Spanish, but enjoying the experience. I’ll try to remember to post updates occasionally.
